The Lakota are a Native American tribe who inhabited the Northern Plains. Originally they lived closer to the Dakota indians, but conflict with neighboring tribes and buffalo migration caused them to move out west to around the area of modern day North and South Dakota. They are similar to other tribes referred to as the Sioux indians, and are also known as the Western Sioux.
